Webinar Meeting

The Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and the Northern Corridor: Webinar

This summer presents Washington County residents with the opportunity to weigh in on the two biggest projects impacting public lands and water in Washington County history: the Lake Powell Pipeline and Northern Corridor Highway. Using your voice to protect local quality of life has never been more important! Join public lands program manager Sarah Thomas and the Conserve Southwest Utah board on Wednesday, May 20th to learn about an important public comment period beginning on June 12th for the proposed Northern Corridor Highway that would travel for 4.5 miles through the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area/Desert Reserve. The highway's environmental and socioeconomic consequences are being analyzed in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that the public is invited to comment on. Your short comment can help defend Red Cliffs for future generations by doing three things: 1- Share why you value the land, 2- Describe how you would be harmed by the highway, and most importantly, 3- support smart transportation alternatives outside precious Red Cliffs NCA.

Sarah Thomas is Conserve Southwest Utah's Public Lands Program Manager. She is a community organizer, education and outreach specialist and advocate for public lands in Washington County with an emphasis on National Conservation Lands. In coordination with the Bureau of Land Management St. George Field Office, Sarah directs stewardship activities for the Southern Utah National Conservation Lands Friends (SUNCLF) group whose volunteers are friends of the Red Cliffs and Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Areas.  SUNCLF includes the fantastic volunteer archaeological site steward program. Sarah has worked as a natural resources interpreter for the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management and currently specializes in Mojave desert tortoise issues.
