Sage Grouse Lek - Parowan Gap

NOTE: This event has been moved out one week to Saturday, March 21, 2020

Join us as we visit the Sage Grouse lek near the Parowan Gap. Every year these birds gather at this lek for 3-4 weeks to do their courtship display. We will plan to arrive early to set up scopes and viewing at a safe and distant location so as not to disturb the birds. We will need to carpool in vehicles that have high clearance.

Meeting Place: Meet at the BLM office parking lot, 345 E Riverside Dr, St. George, at 5:00am sharp. We will also stop at the Maverick in Enoch (exit 62) around 6:00AM. This will be a very early start as we want to be in place before the sun rises at 7:11am. Because of the sensitivity of the lek, we will not be publishing maps or directions. Please plan to stay together as we drive.

Special Instructions: Dress warmly as we plan to arrive 30-40 minutes before the sun rises when temperatures will be near freezing. We will leave the lek shortly after the sun rises when the birds disperse. We may stop and bird along the way home.
