Lytle Ranch
Meeting Place (New Time!!): Meet at 7:00am at the BLM parking lot. 345 E. Riverside Drive, St. George. Or, meet at 7:30am at the Shivwits Convience Store at 5861 W Old Hwy 91 in Ivins. We will carpool. We are starting earlier as it is supposed to be a warm day and we want to spend as much good hours at Lytle as possible.
Special Instructions: Lytle Ranch is the top birding spot in our region. It is located, “where the Basin and Range Province of the Mojave Desert is juxtaposed to the Colorado River Plateau. The Preserve is at an unusual place in North America where unique geological formations and ecosystems overlap.” It has year-round running water, ponds, large trees and orchards, and a variety of habitat. All participants will need to fill out a liability release form found below. We will do a few stops along the gravel road to Lytle to look for Cactus Wren, Ash-throated Flycatchers, Black-tailed Gnatcatchers, and Loggerhead Shrike.
We will bird until the day either the temperature or the winds go up. We will be walking mostly on dirt roads and trails. Bring plenty of water and a lunch. We will plan to eat in the shade of the picnic tables before leaving.
